the eating was amazing....hadow a group and it was for 2 glasses wein with an eating flight we ended the order more eating and more wein plus a bottle to go the bar staff were fun and upbeat, the place was quiet and relaxing
I love the cellar door. Cheese flights are stellar. red sangria is very beautiful. the fact that they offer good beer is also a bonus. the first time I was on the new year eve. they had live entertainment that was pretty good. the champagne we had was excellent. these were the things that stunned me. Since then, I've been back as often as I can. the service is somewhat slow, even if the space is not filled. Eating is good, but a little expensive. when they sit outside, it's pretty loud because of traffic. it's too bad it's not a bit bigger.
a pleasant lunch. downtown downers grove, illinois, wins every year in charm and vitality. we enjoyed many lunches in the beautiful restaurants on and from main street. we are happy to have another fine restaurant, cellar door. the day was beautiful so we wanted to sit outside. it was suggested that we think about the cheese and meat plate. we have selected four delicious cheeses and three thin cut meats. it came with warm brot and crackers. there were walnuts and dried cirches to decorate the plate and tickle the palate. one of the cheese, explorateaur, a French brie, was absolutely wonderful. my wife liked it so much that she asked where she could buy something and was told to load in the next city, it was on camp. we also had prosciutto and some jambon de pays. it was all wonderful. of course we had to have a nice pigtail. they have recommended an Argentine chardonay. it was pretty good to be chilled, refreshing without blocking the taste. in everything it was lovely. the cheese plate and the two glasses wein without drinking money were $37.
the cellar door is a beautiful option and is worth a trip on your own faust after downers grove if they are not a native.
My wife and I have been coming here for several years and it never, ever disappoints! We have had everything on the food menu (a few times over) and it never, ever ceases to amaze us! The food is ALWAYS top-notch, the wine selection is fantastic, and the entire team is so friendly and courteous! I would definitely recommend enjoying their outdoor space on a beautiful summer afternoon or evening. The food, paired with a few glasses of wine, while taking in all downtown Downers Grove has to offer is a great date night idea!
My girlfriend I had a lovely visit, bottle of wine charcuterie board here Thursday night. Our waitress was perfectly attentive..there to pour some more wine, but not hovering too much. I checked out the sidewalk, indoor hightop standard tables...all great options. If you're a group of ~5-7, it looked like there was also a small lounge area with couches. Decent selection of bottles in the fridge and on the shelf for carryout or in-house (surcharge if opening in restaurant, but less than glasses if you're drinking the same thing). Other delicious appetizer and sandwich options also available. Will be back!
One of my favorite places in Downtown Downers Grove. It's a perfect place to start for the evening, get a bottle of wine or just stop...
