The food was amazing, but when ordering time came, my husband wasnât even asked what he wanted to eat. Since the friends we came to dinner with had chosen to split a steak, when I ordered the same thing, the waitress assumed my husband and I were splitting our meal as well. We have never split a meal in years together, but we were all talking and having a great time, so we didnât notice when she walked away. When the food came, she told my husband (incorrectly) that I had ordered the meal for the both of us to share. Then she proceeded to argue with my husband about the matter, which was very unprofessional. She offered to make him a steak to go, without even asking if that is what he was going to order in the first place. At that point, he didnât even bother trying to argue with her further because she got very defensive, and he relented and told her not to worry about anything the rest of the meal. He wouldâve ordered ribs if she would have simply asked what he would have wanted. Not only did she assume we were going to split a meal, but not one time during the entire experience did she ever ask him what he wanted to eat. She kept trying to come back and make everything better by asking questions, what she could do, etc., but she failed to capture a very simple part of ANY dining experience. Talk to every patron and make sure their needs are met. I was honestly shocked when she started arguing with my husband because that has never happened at any restaurant we have ever been to, fine dining or fast food. This was my birthday dinner, so it put a damper on the entire experience. I was completely embarrassed by everything that happened on her end, as well as ours. I am so sad that our first experience was like this, because I was very excited to try black walnut because I heard wonderful things about the chef and his courses! But the restaurant should do a much better job at training their wait staff, especially in customer service. So disappointed.
